Steve Harvey revives his daytime Facebook talk show (EXCLUSIVE)



Steve Harvey is bringing back his daytime talk show – but this time he’s going down the streaming route, making a deal for a new series on Facebook Watch. The new show, titled “Steve on Watch”, is scheduled to air on January 6.

Harvey has already recorded the first batch of new episodes for his relaunched show, filming new segments in Atlanta between Dec. 3-6 at Tyler Perry Studios. According to Facebook, the first batch of episodes will run for 10 weeks, with multiple segments per week.

Film 45, the unscripted and branded content affiliate of Endeavor Content, and Steve Harvey Global’s East 112 label will produce “Steve on Watch,” which is produced by Ianthe Jones.

“Reaching my audience anywhere and wherever they are has always been the goal,” Harvey said in a statement. “Facebook Watch viewers are the most energetic and engaged community, as are my amazing fans. Getting all of these people to engage directly on a platform like this is the perfect evolution of the show. “

A representative for Harvey also highlighted the comedian’s strength on social media, including Facebook, in making the decision to move his show to Watch. According to statistics provided by Facebook and Harvey’s company, his page received 2.2 billion views between September 2018 and August 2019, and 64 million engagements, while 35 videos generated more than 10 million views. In April 2019, Harvey’s Facebook page was the 6th most viewed American entertainment page, according to Tubular.

“Steve on Watch” will feature Harvey giving his take on everyday life and “issues affecting his audiences”, as well as interviews with performers, musicians, viral stars and more.

To that end, it will contain much of the same DNA as its previous unionized speaker “Steve”, who finished his run in June. “Steve” aired on NBC-owned stations in major markets nationwide, but Peacock stations chose this fall to fill their daytime slots with a new entry “The Kelly Clarkson Show”.

“Steve” was owned by Harvey and IMG (now Endeavor Content), as will be the new show, and distributed by NBCUniversal. It was understood at the time that NBC had chosen to switch to Clarkson because it also produces, in addition to the distribution, its show.

After “Steve” finished his run, WME bought the show at stations, as well as cable outlets, but then began to seek out digital buyers, including Facebook, to enter this arena.

At the Variety Entertainment Summit at CES in January, Harvey expressed his disappointment at NBC’s decision (“I thought it would have been nice of them to come see me – as the only guy who survived. [in daytime TV] for seven years – on that, ”Harvey said, referring to Clarkson’s announcement), but also revealed that he was starting to take a closer look at internet video platforms, after viral clips on the “Family Feud” social networks have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“It’s money right now,” he said. “There is no deferred gratuity.”

Harvey launched “Steve” in 2017, replacing “The Steve Harvey Show,” another daytime talk show produced by EndemolShine North America and NBCUniversal. This show, which started Harvey’s daytime conversation relay, premiered in 2012.

The busy Harvey also hosts the prime-time “Family Feud” game show and “Celebrity Family Feud” for ABC. He’s also a much-requested host on many specials, including the annual Miss Universe pageant, which just aired Dec. 8 (also from Atlanta), and is a best-selling author.
