LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shaquille O’Neal will return to the city where he helped the Los Angeles Lakers win three straight championships.

This time, O’Neal — who moonlights as DJ Diesel — will hold his carnival-themed event “Shaq’s Fun House” Friday night in Los Angeles ahead of the Super Bowl this weekend. His next event – which features performances from Lil Wayne, Zedd and Diplo – will be held in person after taking place virtually last year due to COVID-19 concerns.

O’Neal said he wanted to bring “Fun House” back with a bang. The event will take place in the spacious Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, where several attractions will be built, including a human claw machine, a Ferris wheel and an 80-foot slide.

“After last year, where we revamped ‘Fun House’ to make it a virtual streaming event, I think fans are even more excited to come back and celebrate,” O’Neal said. “We won’t let them down.”

Alongside O’Neal’s event, the days leading up to the big game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals will include concerts by some of the world’s biggest music stars, including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Lil Baby, Blake Shelton and Bailiff.

Here’s a look at some of the events during a busy Super Bowl week:

MAYER’S LITTLE SCENE

John Mayer will have a more intimate setting at SiriusXM and Pandora’s Small Stage series. The Grammy winner will headline the concert at the Hollywood Palladium on Wednesday night.

The concert will be hosted by Andy Cohen, who will sit down with Mayer to discuss his music and upcoming tour. Mayer will perform songs from his latest album, “Sob Rock.”

Scott Greenstein, president and CCO of SiriusXM, said he thought Mayer’s gig would be another indication that shows can be fun and safe at the same time. So far during the pandemic, Small Stages – which launched in August 2021 – has seen some success with past performances from Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, HER, Brandi Carlile and J. Cole.

“Although these two years have been difficult, I don’t think people will forget what they love,” Greenstein said. “You feel a little safer and better about it and you can have fun – it will be a win for me.”

PRESIDENT’S PARTY

Once completed the honors of the NFL, many will head to an exclusive afterparty starry underscored by a performance of Usher.
