Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson could enter the talk show realm.
the Respect the star presents a new daytime talk show which will be produced by the team behind The Ellen DeGeneres Show, reports Variety. Although it is not intended to replace Ellen, he would be launched as the new flagship daytime speaker for Warner Bros. TV, now that Ellen comes to the end of its race.
A test show was recently filmed on the Ellen scene and is used as part of the presentation to networks. Ellen’s executive producers Andy Lassner and Mary Connelly served as showrunners on the test set and are developing the show as a daily first-air television tape. Pitch meetings are reportedly taking place this week and appear to be going well.
Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, in association with Telepictures, is behind the project, which is still in progress. Details on the show’s format are still being worked out.
Hudson is no stranger to unscripted television. The old one American Idol star has served as a coach on the US and UK editions of The voice, and she won a Daytime Emmy Award earlier this year for Oculus Quest Baba Yaga, which she produced. Another one Idol star Kelly Clarkson has had great success with her own daytime show.
After his seventh place the American Idol in 2004, Hudson became a superstar, winning an Oscar for her film debut as Effie White in the musical Dream girls. She went on to win two Grammy Awards while continuing to star in blockbuster films such as Sex and the city, Chi-Raq, and more recently playing Aretha Franklin in Respect.
In May, DeGeneres announced that Ellen would end after 19 seasons. The longtime host’s contract expires in 2022 and she has decided now is the time to step away, having already considered leaving in 2019. The show has been at the center of controversy in 2020, at following accusations of a toxic work environment.
