Jennifer Hudson is launching her own daytime talk show to replace ‘Ellen’
Jennifer Hudson is aiming for daytime TV, and the Oscar-winning singer/actress is aiming for Ellen’s spot.
The Respect star launched his own daytime talk show which would be produced by the same team behind The Ellen Degeneres Show, Variety reports. It would be a continuation of Ellen’s show and should be an all-new series with Hudson at the center.
The new show is billed as Warner Bros.’ new flagship talk show. TV which will take over after Ellen completes its 19 seasons. Two executive producers of Ellen, Andy Lasner and Mary Connelly, recently served as showrunners on Hudson’s test show which was filmed on Ellen’s staging.
The test show is currently being pitched as a pitch for Hudson’s new show. Meetings were held last week and the response would have gone smoothly.
There is no official title for the show which positions itself as a nationally syndicated talk show and not added to streaming platforms. The news comes after Warner Bros. has been busy looking for a big name to take over once Ellen finishes her final season.
Hudson had shown interest, and after Warner Bros. considered about 30 different names, the dream girls star was selected as the first choice. While Hudson appeared on screen and nearly walked away as the winner of american idolshe had no daytime talk show experience.
Hudson served as voice coach on the US and UK versions of The voice. Hudson would join fellow American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson on the daytime TV circuit if her show is picked up. The Kelly Clarkson Show was renewed until 2023 and aired just before Ellen in the main NBC stations in the market.
In May, DeGeneres announced that Season 19 would be the last in the long-running series. His decision came after a year of scandal where former and current workers have accused executives of creating a toxic workplace behind the scenes, as Noted by The Hollywood Reporter.
