Duchess of Sussex gets clumsy on Ellen DeGeneres talk show
NEW YORK (AP) – It was Meghan’s time on Thursday on her friend Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, as the Duchess of Sussex helped greet a special guest, hit the studio to prank the vendors and said she would cook Thanksgiving dinner herself.
“I love to cook. We’ll be home and relax and settle in,” Meghan said of her second Thanksgiving in California with Prince Harry and, now, their two children.
Meghan and DeGeneres, who met at a pet store over a decade ago, discussed Halloween (Archie was a dinosaur and baby Lili a skunk) and more serious issues like Meghan’s job to lobby for a federally paid family leave. And she said Harry had adapted well to the California lifestyle of Montecito, where Ellen is one of their neighbors.
“He loves it,” Meghan said. “We’re just happy. ”
Meghan got awkward at the Ellen when she donned an earpiece so Ellen could tell her what to say and what to do as she browsed merchandise from three vendors on the studio grounds. Meghan meowed into cat ears, devoured hot sauce on crackers like a chipmunk, and held a huge crystal to her face – all after a purported assistant told the trio of vendors to treat her like anything the world. They could hardly help but laugh.
“Let mom taste it.” My mate loves hot sauce, ”Meghan told a salesperson with a table full of hot sauces. “Mom wants some heat.”
Later on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Ellen and Meghan welcomed Brittany Starks, a mom and hairstylist from Tennessee who gave back after helping herself through tough times by braiding schoolchildren’s hair for free. She has since started a charity, A Twist of Greatness.
The show and philanthropic partner TisBest donated $ 20,000 to her cause. Meghan and Harry matched him with an additional $ 20,000.
“We have been so touched by your story,” Meghan told Starks as she hugged her.
