‘The Mel Robbins Show’ canceled: no season 2 for the daytime series

Daytime television will soon have a vacant slot on the schedule: The Mel Robbins Show was canceled after one season in syndication, TVLine confirmed.

The hour-long talk show, which debuted in September 2019, found motivational speaker and author Robbins offering advice and life strategies to viewers and guests. Production will continue until the order for the Season 1 episodes is complete, with final installments due in early September.

“Mel has positively impacted millions of viewers during the day, and we still firmly believe in her message and the work she does,” read a statement from Sony Pictures Television, which produced the speaker. “We are proud of the show and the talented team and thank our partners and the Nexstar launch group, as well as our advertisers and sponsors, for their exceptional support. “

“It was a privilege to have a platform on TV to fight for ordinary people,” Robbins added. “I am so proud of the show we created because it serves as a lifeline and daily resource for viewers who struggle and want more from their lives. I end every show by saying, “I believe in you and your ability to change,” and with or without this show, I really mean it.

Mel Robbins was one of four major daytime television programs to debut last fall. Kelly Clarkson’s Show quickly got a renewal, barely two months after its launch, while Tamron Room got the right word a few weeks after that. The Chew: Should ABC Daytime Have Been Canceled? – canceled + renewed TV shows

(ABC / Lorenzo Bevilaqua)

Today, ABC is airing the last episode of its daytime series, chew it. Last month, the network announced that the cooking-themed talk show had been canceled after more than 1,400 episodes. Will you miss it? Was this the right decision?

Launched in September 2011, chew it replace the All my kids soap opera after its 41 years on the network. A talk show that incorporates segments related to cuisine and lifestyle, the series was originally hosted by Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Daphne Oz and Michael Symon. Oz left the show after six seasons, and Batali left following allegations of sexual misconduct in December 2017.

ABC decided to cancel chew it in order to extend their Hello america series at three o’clock. NBC Today the show has had a third hour (with various titles) since October 2000. The current incarnation is Megyn Kelly today.

While the third hour of Today generally followed the two hours of the regular program, the third hour of the Hello america will be broadcast separately in the afternoon. The new hour of GMA should be recorded and not shown live, as is the case with the regular program. ABC makes this decision as Today took the lead in various demographics in the morning odds race.

If ABC had wanted to expand GMA at three o’clock, couldn’t they have replaced either View Where Living with Kelley and Ryan? This was unlikely to happen since both perform better than chew it. Specifically, View increases its audience and records its best audiences since the 2014-15 season (a rarity in the current landscape). During this time, chew it was in last place, placing 13th out of 13 day heats.

While ABC may have high hopes for a third hour of GMA, they undoubtedly have an uphill battle ahead of them. Daytime audiences often don’t like change and some viewers still want it chew it to replace All my kids. Time will tell if the new hour of GMA will do better than chew it made.

What do you think? Do you think ABC should have canceled chew it TV shows? If not, what could they have done to increase the ratings? Will you check out a third hour of Hello America?

“For seven years, chew it delighted audiences by delivering innovative food segments in an entertaining atmosphere, ”Ben Sherwood, president of Disney-ABC Television Group, said in a statement. “We applaud and thank Gordon Elliott, Aimee Householder, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and all of the cast and crew for their great work and incredible journey. New episodes of chew it will air as planned until September, when Hello america kicks off its third hour at 1 p.m. ET each day.

Sherwood continued, “Over the past six years, Hello america solidified its place as the # 1 morning show in the United States. We believe there is a great opportunity for viewers and advertisers to expand to a third hour. While this is the right decision for our business, it is also bittersweet. “

Anchors for GMAThe third hour will be announced at a later date.

chew itThe show’s cancellation comes five months after co-host Mario Batali was fired over allegations of sexual misconduct. Although ABC said he was “not aware of any type of inappropriate behavior” during Batali’s time on chew it, the network eventually severed ties with the chef, adding that “we are committed to creating a safe working environment and that his past behavior violates our standards of conduct.”
