In what must be an inspiring moment for problematic bosses around the world, American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres took home the award for Best Daytime Talk Show at the E! Public Prize.
The award comes at a rather odd time. The Ellen DeGeneres Show Was this year prone to so many toxic allegations in the workplace, we had to put together this full timeline of the drama. Former and current employees of the show reportedly said Buzzfeed News that they regularly dealt with “racism, fear and bullying”, with a subsequent report showing producers engaging in widespread sexual misconduct. It looks like a beautiful place.
The allegations led to an investigation and ultimately an attempted apology from Ellen herself at the premiere of the show’s 18th season (her monologue didn’t go over well with the former staff, either by the way).
Obviously, Ellen made a point of thanking her staff profusely in her acceptance speech. “Thank you, thank you, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” she said. “I’m not just accepting this award for myself, but on behalf of my great team and staff who make the show possible. They show up every day, give themselves 100%, 100% of the time.” Watch his full speech below.
Who knew the People’s Choice Awards had such a mean sense of humor? We can only assume that this was a legendary troll on their part. “Hey, let’s give ELLEN the award for best daytime talk show,” we can see a guy laughing from a dark boardroom. “She’ll have to do the speech and everything.” “Awkwarrddd,” sounded another, followed by a series of corporate high fives.
Yes, that’s for sure that’s how it would all have turned out.
Ex-employees of The Ellen DeGeneres Show have yet to publicly respond to the victory.
Editor’s Note: The imagination of the author of the Audience Award selection process should not be taken at face value. People’s Choice Awards winners are actually decided by fans, who were able to vote online starting October 1, 2020.
